The Pneuma in the Kardia

My next letter in "The Life of the Age to Come" series will be an exploration of the nature of our two bodies, our spiritual body and our physical body, how they are interrelated and how we learn to walk in both at the same time. We know very well how to walk in our physical body, but we are less skilled at functioning through our spiritual body.

But in order to have something real to share with you, I needed to know what God actually says about these things. I have done this type of word study many times over the years. In the past, I wrote out every verse in order to receive more fully the sense of what God is speaking. This time, I cut and pasted from Bible Gateway.

I have found, over and over, that a close look at what God actually says about most anything will always give a different perspective from what Christianity says He says. Sometimes you will discover that God says the opposite of what Christianity says.

But the close look at the word God speaks that comes from writing it out over and over is not sufficient by itself to impart a true understanding. Two other factors must also be there. We must also believe that what God speaks is true. And we must allow God to reveal to us the meaning of His words by His Spirit in us. Trying to "figure out" what it all means will take us nowhere.

I know that many Christians do not believe that what God says is true; they believe that what their church teaches is true. You can show them a clear verse in the New Testament, but it means nothing to them if their church does not teach what God says. I suspect there are no such "church" people receiving this letter.

But still, I have always greatly valued the word God speaks and have sought to plant it in my heart over the years of my walk with Him, as I know you have done as well. Writing or typing the word out does that best for me, and I have done it so many times over the years. Then, the words are there in my heart and mind for the Spirit of God to use as He reveals Christ to me.

And so here are ten Greek words with every verse in which they are used in the New Testament, grouped into four groups. The first study is heaven and earth. The second is Spirit and life. The third is flesh and body. And the fourth is mind (twice), soul, and heart.

But the thing that blew me away in this study was the junction of the words pneuma and kardia, the Spirit of Christ in the heart of the believer. In this letter I want to share some thoughts about what that means.

Four Important Word Studies (all in PDF)

Ouranos and Ge in the New Testament
Pneuma and Zoe in the New Testament
Sarx and Soma in the New Testament

Nous, Dianoia, Psuche, and Kardia in the New Testament

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our kardias by the Holy Pnuema who was given to us." Romans 5:5

"But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your kardia" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your kardia that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the kardia one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10: 8-10

"Who also has sealed us and given us the Pneuma in our kardias as a guarantee."      2 Corinthians 1:22

"You are our epistle written in our kardias, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Pneuma of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on sarx tablets, that is, of the kardia." 2 Corinthians 3: 2-3

"For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our kardias to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:6

"And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Pneuma of His Son into your kardias, crying out, "Abba, Father!" Galatians 4:6

". . . to be strengthened with might through His Pneuma in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your kardias through faith . . ." Ephesians 3: 16-17

"And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your kardias." 2 Peter 1:19

And then this one:

"Ananias, why has Satan filled your kardia to lie to the Holy Pneuma . . . ?" Acts 5:3

There is a direct and limitless connection between the Spirit of Christ, our hearts, and our mouth, but incredibly, the connection can go in the other direction as well.

In this letter, I simply want to share a number of thoughts that the Lord made real to me as I went through these verses in this way.

First, there is only one part of the human makeup that is evil in itself. Here is a very telling verse:

"And you shall love the LORD your God with all your kardia, with all your psuche, with all your dianoia, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment." Mark 12:30

The only part of man that cannot love God is the fallen human spirit. The heart can be hardened and dull or it can be filled with faith. The mind can be darkened or it can be renewed. The flesh can be immoral or filled with the revelation of Christ. None of these things are evil in themselves; they are simply reflective of that spirit that fills them - except the fallen human spirit.

Our fallen human spirit was evil in itself because by it the spirit of Satan was able to impart his breath into man. That human spirit is what God calls "the old man." God put that fallen human spirit to death in us at the moment that we were born again. And at the same moment He recreated a new spirit inside us. Our new human spirit is utterly immersed in God's spirit so that no meaningful distinction can be found between them.

Here is how I see that union. Everything that is found in God's Spirit has an expression in our spirit and everything that is found in our spirit is God's Spirit. We are one spirit with God. But God's Spirit goes far beyond our spirit, whereas our spirit is limited to us. In other words, a drop of water in an ocean of water is still a drop, it is not the ocean, yet there is no meaningful distinction between the drop and the water of the ocean. They are one.

And this union of God's Spirit and our spirit finds its dwelling and center in our hearts. Literally, in that organ we call the heart.

And so, as you read through these verses, you can see that the work of God through the time of our life on this earth is to turn our hearts from dullness to faith. That happens by the words that we speak with our mouth.

Going through difficult things cannot change our hearts. Speaking what God speaks while we go through difficult things does.

But you can see how the theological belief that our hearts are "deceitful and desperately wicked" can neuter and cut off every transformation that God wants to work in our lives. Those who apply that Old Covenant definition to themselves can never speak in faith, personally and direct, what God says about us in the New Covenant.

But here is our problem as believers. We continue to live inside of physical bodies that, according to Paul, remain "dead" because of sin. Thus it is so easy and natural for us to see out from that body and to interpret everything through it. Because we still "see" too much inside the limited definitions of our physical body, the shadow of the "old man" continues to cast itself across our minds and our hearts.

The pure in heart see God. To the pure, all things are pure. Our mind and conscience can be defiled only if we do not believe.

Believing comes by the words that we speak. Any time we say something negative about ourselves, we cut ourselves off from the Spirit of God in our hearts. That is, we dull our hearing and our seeing so that we are unable to see the Mighty and Glorious One who fills us with Himself. That is an incredible blindness. How on earth can we fail to see Him when He fills us full? Yet so it is, if we speak that which God does not speak.

[Speaking negatively about ourselves is different from glorying in our weakness that the power of Christ may rest upon us.]

Let's look at exactly what God says about the various parts of our make-up.

"Do you not know that your somas are members of Christ?" "Or do you not know that your soma is the temple of the Holy Pneuma who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your soma and in your pneuma, which are God's." 1 Corinthians 6: 15,19-20

"For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal sarx." 2 Corinthians 4:11 "For we are members of His soma, of His sarx and of His bones." Ephesians 5:30

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole pneuma, psuche, and soma be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:23

"Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith-the salvation of your psuches." 1 Peter 1:8-9 "Since you have purified your psuches in obeying the truth through the Pneuma in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure kardia," 1 Peter 1:22

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our kardias by the Holy Pneuma who was given to us." Romans 5:5

"And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us a dianoia, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and zoe aionios." 1 John 5:20

"But we have the nous of Christ." 1 Corinthians 2:16

"But he who is joined to the Lord is one pneuma with Him." 1 Corinthians 6:17

So let's stop speaking any of the other stuff. We can speak all of these things about every part of our being with full assurance of faith because these are the things God says about us.

The old man is gone; all that's left of him is a memory. We erase that memory by speaking what God speaks.

That is how we are renewed in the pneuma of our nous, in the spirit of our mind.

Did you catch that verse in 1 John? There is more power in that verse than in all the militaries of this world put together.

God has given us a dianoia, God has given us a "mind," that we may know Him. And knowing Him IS life eternal.

God has given me a mind to know Him!
My mind knows God.

Let me tell you something! That is the only mind I have, that is the only mind I know. That mind, that dianoia to know God, fills me. It fills every part of my soul, every crevice and cranny of my heart, of my mind, of my emotions, of my will.

God has formed and created me,   Daniel Yordy  , to know God without limit and without end.

(Put your own name in the blank and speak it out loud at the top of your lungs.)

I know God personally and intimately. I know His heart; I know His mind; I know His ways; I know the deepest cry of His soul.

"But God has revealed them to us through His Pneuma. For the Pneuma searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the pneuma of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Pneuma of God. Now we have received, not the pneuma of the world, but the Pneuma who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." 1 Corinthians 2: 10-12

And what has God freely given us to know?

Himself.

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God manifest in the sarx."

I have shared these Annie visions in previous letters; I will share them again here. I have read many of these visions over and over through the course of my life. They have helped shape my knowledge of God and His ways. Yet, if you obtain a copy for yourself, which I strongly recommend that you do, we judge all things by the word God speaks. If, at times, I feel that something Annie shares does not quite fit the word God speaks, as He is revealing it to me in the present moment, then I set aside that part of that vision for that moment.

But these things ARE being fulfilled in us right now. We are in the fullness of times. There is no more delay.

That Holy Thing
"As I entered His presence, He showed me something so impressive and frightening that I feared greatly. Although He specifically told me not to fear, even so, I could not feel completely at ease, for in almost unbearable pain and in great love, He tore open, as it were, His own spiritual form or body. Even though He had told me to look at it, I feared to and wanted to hide my eyes, for after this great tearing open of Himself I could see within. There I beheld something so terribly perfect in its holiness, that even the word perfection seems to sully it in my memory. This living something was very much a part of Himself, yet it seemed as though He were bringing forth, in a tremendous beginning, a new being from His own person. It was the same beginning in God that He had shown me several days before, in "The Place of a Beginning." For long eons He has waited to manifest this most Holy Thing which He is about to bring forth.

"The tremendous, radiant perfection - the holy glory of this beginning that He showed me - was so far beyond expression and so filled with holiness and God-life, that I felt greatly perturbed, and trembled even though He told me over and over again not to fear. It was something too high, holy and perfect to look upon.

"When He said, 'The hour has now come,' it seemed that He was about to explode, not in an explosion of terrible destructive violence, but rather a pacific explosion. Then He came forth, as it were, in this explosion, and it was tremendously sweet. From this sweet, explosive breaking forth, He extended Himself over all; that is to say, He desired to manifest Himself, pouring this forth upon those of His own ones who were waiting upon Him. To me it seemed so imminent that it appeared to be right now, yet I know it was not at this moment of our time."

The New Life and the Angry Storm
"Of late, every time He takes me unto Himself, I am made exceedingly conscious of the coming storm of persecution that is drawing ever nearer. It is already forming and developing, gathering its forces and heaping together its strength, preparing to break forth in hellish fury at a predetermined time.

"This great storm of hate and fury, with its pain and bloodshed, is timed to break forth at the very same time as this high and Holy Thing that He (the Father) is bringing forth out of Himself shall be manifested upon the earth. The two things are forming in the invisible world at the same time and at the same pace. The storm of persecution and hatred shall break forth simultaneously with the coming light of this Holy Thing that He is bringing forth; which shall be manifested upon the earth in those whom He has chosen exclusively for Himself, and in whom He shall come forth in this new beginning."

Then this:

God's View of the Storm
"In prayer, God lifted me up into Himself and again showed me the great storm of evil and persecution that is coming upon all the earth. For the first time He showed it to me as He sees it, and not as I have seen it through my own eyes. To Him this storm was a most beautiful and glorious working out of His perfect will, which was bringing forth great blessing and not the destruction I had hitherto seen. In spite of being such a tremendous storm, nevertheless, it was not evil at all, but was filled with goodness. Seeing the storm as God sees it took away all the horror I had felt before concerning it.

"Before it had appeared tragic and evil to me, and its image had haunted my natural thoughts because of its evil portents and terrible power, darkness, destruction and pain. I now saw an entirely different image: the storm as it really is - a wonderful and powerful wave of His cleansing power and grace which is bringing forth rich blessings."

And finally this one:

His Presence Develops
"God placed within His own ones something that did not fully develop in all of them. The development of this living thing only came forth into fullness in those who came into a state of His continual Presence, and who were continually dwelling in Him. This development came not by works, nor by strengths, nor by the strivings of man, but only by the continual Presence of Christ in their lives."

[Annie received these visions in 1971, the time of their fulfillment is now. I urge you to obtain a copy of these visions for yourself. You can find them at http://www.thequickenedword.com/annie.htm. Here are all four volumes in one. I am quoting from I Looked & I Saw Visions of God," edited by R. Edward Miller.]

Let us receive with all confidence of faith this most Holy Thing, this manifest presence of God's person Himself, revealed now in us upon this earth.

We receive all the fullness of the Pneuma without measure. We walk just as Jesus walked, tempted, yes, but without sin, in full obedience to the Father who is the only life we know.

We set the captives free.

We heal the brokenhearted.

We give sight to the blind.

We proclaim the salvation of God.

We are the presence of His vengeance upon the earth.

God proves Himself through us.

Out of our belly flows the river of the life of God transforming this planet, cleansing it of every unclean thing and of all that offends.

Even so come, Lord Jesus.
